LUX ROW DISTILLERS OFFICIALLY OPENS THE DOORS OF ITS NEW KENTUCKY BOURBON DISTILLERY

St. Louis based drinks producer Luxco, has today announced the official opening of its bourbon distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky.

Lux Row Distillers officially opens the doors of its new Kentucky bourbon distillery

Lux Row Distillers, will now produce Luxco’s entire bourbon portfolio, which includes the Ezra Brooks, Rebel Yell, David Nicholson and Blood Oath brands. The distillery has a current production capacity of 20,000 barrels, with the ability to increase to 50,000 barrels in the future.

The name Lux Row, is a nod to the family name and the scenic row of trees lining the property’s entrance. In March 2017, the distillery’s 36-inch Vendome all-copper still was installed and in early 2018 bourbon production began. Now, with more than 2,200 barrels already resting in its 20,000-square-foot barrel warehouse, Lux Row Distillers is ready to welcome the public for tours and tastings.

Commenting on the news, Donn Lux, Chairman and CEO of Luxco, said: “Today marks a great celebration and momentous occasion in the evolution of Luxco. It gives me great pride to be here to cut the ribbon as we embark on this new chapter of distilling our own whiskey for our award-winning brands. We further extend our sincerest thanks to the city of Bardstown and the bourbon community for welcoming our family into theirs. We are looking forward to making world-class bourbon here for many years.”

Lux Row Distillers, also recently joined the Kentucky Distillers’ Association as a “Heritage” member, the highest level in the non-profit group that unites and leads the state’s signature bourbon and distilled spirits industry.

IAN MACLEOD DISTILLERS LAUNCHES NEW SMOKEHEAD EXPRESSION

Ian Macleod Distillers, has today announced the launch of a new Smokehead expression, along with a new refreshed look for the Islay single malt whisky brand.

Smokehead High Voltage (58% ABV) which is described by the brand as 'an intense new expression which is not for the faint hearted', will now sit alongside the original award winning Smokehead bottling, which launched in 2006.

Smokehead and Smokehead High Voltage

As part of the new refreshed look of its packaging, the iconic skull logo now plays a much more dominant role on the label and gift tin. It takes on a more evocative and free-spirited style, with a rush of smoke blowing through the head to create an element of defiance.

Smokehead High Voltage, is said to deliver notes of intense peat smoke, maritime air, porridge oats, vanilla and toffee on the nose. Followed by a full-on flavour of hot spirit and smoke, feeling thick with oiliness before softening and becoming creamier, with nutty, briny and citrus notes.

Commenting on the news, Iain Weir, Brand Director for Smokehead, said: “Smokehead has always challenged the traditional whisky world with its unconventional look and attitude, appealing to the younger and adventurous whisky drinker. We’ve turned up the volume right across the brand. It’s not for everyone, but that’s ok. And if Smokehead is an assault on your senses, then High Voltage is an all-out attack. Louder, bolder and more intense than getting put in a headlock from an angry roadie.”

Smokehead High Voltage, will be available later this month from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £54.99.
