STAUNING WHISKY LAUNCHES LIMITED EDITION DIY BOTTLES

The Denmark based Stauning Distillery, has announced the launch of limited-edition DIY design bottles, following a series of bottle shortages and supply delays.

The shortages which have affected many brands around the world, have encouraged the brand to re-think its options and led them to introduce the limited-edition DIY bottles.

Stauning Whisky launches limited-edition DIY bottles

The limited-edition bottles will come packaged in a sleek black box in Stauning’s classic illustrative design. Each box will contain a clear bottle of whisky, a selection of stickers and a gold felt tip pen for those who want to add a bespoke touch to their design.

Stauning was founded in 2005, by a group of nine friends with a passion for whisky, with differing backgrounds – four engineers, a helicopter pilot, a doctor, a teacher, a chef and a butcher – who joined together to push the boundaries of whisky making, to create whiskies reflective of their heritage with distinct Danish character. Blending a mix of old and new-world methods.

All of Stauning’s whiskies are made from local grain, floor-malted in house at the distillery on the Danish west coast. Distillation takes place in 24 small copper pot stills which are direct-fired to create complex flavours, adding weight and character to the whiskies.

The DIY Stauning Rye, Kaos and Smoke bottles, will be available later this month from the Whisky Exchange, for the respective RRP’s of £60.00, £70.00 and £75.00. Further Stauning releases are also available from Master of Malt and Ocado.

CÙ BÒCAN LAUNCHES NEW 12 YEAR OLD BOTTLING

The Tomatin Distillery, has today announced the launch of a new age-stated bottling from its Cù Bòcan range.

Cù Bòcan 12 Year Old – Batch #1 (46% ABV) is a single malt Scotch whisky, which has been matured in Caribbean rum casks from Guyana and Barbados.

Cù Bòcan 12 Year Old

The experimental Highland single malt is distilled every winter at Tomatin Distillery in limited batches and made with lightly peated Scottish barley for its signature wisp of smoke. Cù Bòcan is also renowned for exploring innovative maturations, creating whiskies full of intrigue and surprise, with their ethos of “unlocking the unusual”.

Cù Bòcan 12 Year Old – Batch #1, is said to deliver flavours including grilled pineapple, sea salt, ginger and white chocolate.

Commenting on the launch, Scott Adamson, Blender and Global Brand Ambassador at Tomatin, said: “Whisky matured in rum casks can be incredible, but rum casks are notorious for their variable quality and securing a consistent supply is almost impossible. Therefore, this permanent addition to the Cù Bòcan range will be released in batches. With each batch we will explore casks from across the Caribbean, each with their own unique origin, history, and influence."

He went onto say: "Batch #1, distilled on the 10th of December 2010, has been finished in a mix of rum casks from Guyana and Barbados. These islands are known for the use of molasses and pot still distillation. Producers in Barbados, regarded by many as the birthplace of rum, blend pot still and column still rums making the island worthy of its reputation for well-aged, balanced expressions. The casks sourced from Barbados provide a range of fresh tropical fruits and invigorating maritime notes. Known for the famed Demerara River, Guyana is home to some of the fullest bodied rums in the Caribbean. These casks have added more depth and warming spice.”

Cù Bòcan released their fifth instalment in their “Creation Series” earlier this year; Creation #5 matured in Andean Oak casks, which is thought to be the first single malt of its kind. The Cù Bòcan Creation series pushes the boundaries of Scotch whisky with experimentation, whilst still paying homage to its protective heritage.

Cù Bòcan 12 Year Old – Batch #1, is now available from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £65.00.
