Kingsbarns 2 Year Old Spirit Drink, will give enthusiasts a taste of the distillery’s core essence, ahead of it reaching the minimal 3 Year Old age, in which it can be legally classed as Scotch whisky.

This latest release from the Fife based distillery, follows on its first Spirit Drink release in 2015, which was bottled straight from the still without being aged in oak barrels.

The Wemyss family owned distillery, is aiming to bottle the very first Kingsbarns single malt Scotch whisky, as a ‘Founders’ Reserve’ exclusively for the members of its Founders’ Club in 2018.

Commenting on the launch, Peter Holroyd, Kingsbarns Distillery Manager, said: “We are delighted to announce the limited release of our 2yr old spirit which can be purchased exclusively here at the distillery. It has a sweet, floral nose and on the palate I get ginger biscuits with a slightly dry finish. Its very exciting to see how our spirit is progressing so far, and with only one more year to go until we can call what we produce Scotch whisky, the team here at Kingsbarns are all looking forward to releasing our first malt in 2018.”

Kingsbarns 2 Year Old Spirit Drink, will be available exclusivley from the distillery’s visitor centre early net month. RRP (tbc).

BOX DISTILLERY ANNOUNCES EXPANSION PLANS TO MEET GROWING DEMAND FOR ITS WHISKY

Sweden’s Box Distillery, has today announced plans for a multi-million Krona investment to increase production capacity and expand tourism.

The proposed plans which include adding two new copper stills, four new washbacks and a large new warehouse, will also include some minor alterations to its still room.

Box Distillery

Since launching in 2014, Box Distillery has been experiencing an ever-increasing demand for its whisky, both domestically and internationally, and it now plans to triple production to 300,000 litres a year.

The company has also decided to increase its investment in the distillery as a tourist attraction. It’s already one of the region’s most visited destinations and conference venues. Its existing restaurant and conference sections will be extended and modified to accommodate the growing demand, as well as larger groups.

Commenting on the news, Thomas Larsson, Box Distillery’s CEO, said: “Our annual production capacity of just over 100,000 litres LPA (litres of pure alcohol) is not enough to meet consumer interest. Our response is a decision to triple capacity.”

He went onto say: “It’s truly gratifying that so many people are interested in our products and that our business attracts whisky aficionados, companies and tourists from countries all over the world. This investment will allow us to take our place as one of the most ambitious distilleries in the world of new whisky.”

In addition to a string of bottlings including its Early Days Collection, in November 2016 Box Distillery released its now much acclaimed Dálvve single malt whisky, the first official core range bottling in its range.

CLYDE MAY'S LAUNCHES NEW CASK STRENGTH WHISKEY BOTTLING

Conecuh Ridge Distillers, has announced the launch of a new 9 Year Old, cask strength expression, from its Clyde May's whiskey brand.

Clyde May's 9 Year Old Cask Strength Whiskey (58.5% ABV) has been aged for at least 9 years, in charred American oak barrels.

This latest release from the Alabama based whiskey brand, follows on from last year’s Clyde May's 8 Year Old Cask Strength Whiskey release, which sold out within a couple of months and earned a Gold Medal at the 2016 New York World Wine and Spirits competition.

Commenting on the launch, Ron Call, Whiskey Master at Clyde May's, said: "Our 9-year Cask Strength is complex and uncommonly smooth at 117 proof. Finishing it in the Alabama style rounds out and even softens the bold flavours into a surprisingly smooth finish. Our first Cask Strength, an 8-year, was very well received, and we believe an extra year of aging reveals more complex flavours than last year's release."

Clyde May's Whiskey, is produced by Conecuh Ridge distillers, which was founded by Clyde May, an Alabama farmer and war hero, in the late 1940s. Clyde lived in Alabama's Conecuh Ridge and was a moonshiner by trade but a craftsman by heart. Using copper stills, fresh Alabama spring water and the finest local grains, he vowed to make the best whiskey Alabama had ever tasted.

Clyde May's 9 Year Old Cask Strength Whiskey, will be available later this month from selected specialist retailers in the US, for a RRP of $99.99.
