This latest release from the County Carlow based distillery, also sees the unveiling of a new packaging design for the Writers Tears Cask Strength series, which first launched in 2011.

The new design links the artistic essence of Writers Tears to the creativity of whiskey distilling through a chalkboard illustration by Irish illustrator, Linda Byrne. It depicts the field-to-bottle creation of whiskey and the rural influence on age-old whiskey traditions. Each bottle has also been signed by Distillery Founder Bernard Walsh.

Commenting on the launch, Bernard Walsh said: “This whiskey displays a depth in flavour bursting with complexity and flavour. Elegant notes of dark chocolate and rich blackberries precede subtle summer fruits and sweet barley, while hints of butterscotch and rich toasted wood giving way to a bold and intense finish. We are proud that the new design very much ties the creativity of Writers’ Tears with the creativity of whiskey innovation. I hope the lucky few who acquire this release enjoy every moment.”

Earlier this month, Walsh Whiskey announced the launch of a new limited-edition, vintage bottling from its ‘The Irishman’ whiskey brand.

Writers Tears Cask Strength 2017, will be available later this month in selected international markets, including Italy, France, Holland, Switzerland and both the Irish domestic and Travel Retail markets, for a RRP of €125.00.

This latest release from the Highland based distillery, is said to deliver notes of black cherry, sherry trifle, marmalade and rum & raisin chocolate on the nose. Followed by notes of plum compote, cinnamon, cloves, soft oak and tangy marmalade on the palate.

Glengoyne 30 Year Old, comes presented in what is describes as a luxurious solid oak box, featuring an oak and rose gold bung and a hessian square, the outer casing reflects the traditional cask sampling method employed by Glengoyne Distillery.

Commenting on the launch, Robbie Hughes, Distillery Manager at Glengoyne Distillery, said: “We are delighted with the exceptional quality and taste of the Glengoyne 30 Year Old, it has certainly been worth the wait! He continued by saying: "This distinctive malt is made up of 33% first fill European oak sherry butts and 66% specially selected refill sherry butts. The refill butts impart plenty of flavour and colour but do not dominate or overpower our spirit with too much oak. They also tend to be fresher and fruitier, good for balancing the richness and weight of the sherry casks, adding pleasant top notes and complexity. In this instance, the task was finding the right mix of refill cask to best showcase the sherry exceptional oloroso sherry casks we spend six years sourcing, ensuring incredible colour and an exceptional flavour profile.”

Glengoyne 30 Year Old, will be available later this month from specialist retailers, and from glengoyne.com for a RRP of £600.00.
