GORDON AND MACPHAIL LAUNCHES THE FIRST OF FOUR LIMITED EDITIONS TO MARK ITS 125TH ANNIVERSARY

Gordon & MacPhail, has today announced the launch of the first of four limited-edition expressions, to help commemorate the company’s 125th anniversary.

Gordon & MacPhail 1972 from Coleburn Distillery (62.4% ABV) is a 47 Year Old cask strength single malt Scotch whisky, which was matured in a refill sherry puncheon.

This first of four ‘last cask’ releases is from the Coleburn Distillery in Speyside, which started production in 1897 and closed in 1985. The cask is the last from the distillery to be held in Gordon & MacPhail’s warehouse in Elgin.

The three other single malts in the series, will be released periodically during the rest of 2020, providing a fitting tribute to 125 years spent “in pursuit of perfection of the art of maturation.”

Gordon & MacPhail 1972 from Coleburn Distillery, is said to deliver notes of butterscotch, ripe fruit, subtle floral aromas, caramelised sugar, waxy citrus peel and fresh guava on the nose. Followed by notes of apricot, cooked apple, chilli spice, charred oak and mint leaves on the palate.

Commenting on the news, Stephen Rankin, Director of Prestige Gordon & MacPhail, said: “The whiskies we have chosen to commemorate our 125th Anniversary are all truly unique and seldom seen in the market. They are bottled from the last remaining casks we have from these distilleries, and marks an emotional moment for my family as they leave the Gordon & MacPhail warehouse after being left to mature by my grandfather many decades ago.”

He went onto say: “These single malts represent not only the skills and expertise in whisky maturation built and passed down through generations, but also the passion we have in advocating the discovery of rare whiskies from some of Scotland’s lesser known, but much sought after, distilleries. We intend to reveal details of the other three whiskies over the coming year, with each single malt honouring this important milestone for Gordon & MacPhail.”

Limited to 363 bottles, Gordon & MacPhail 1972 from Coleburn Distillery, will be available later this month from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £1500,00.
