WATERFORD DISTILLERY LAUNCHES NEW SINGLE FARM ORIGIN SERIES

The Waterford Distillery, has announced the launch of its new “barley-forward, terroir-driven” Single Farm Origin Series.

Influenced by the world's greatest winemakers, the Single Farm Origin Series, is the distillery’s first commercial releases since it began distillation in 2015.

Waterford Distillery launches new Single Farm Origin Series

Using 100% Irish barley, the new Single Farm Origin series is an “uber-provenance” range of limited edition natural whiskies, that explore Irish terroir one farm, once place, at a time, showcasing barley flavours derived from individual Irish farms and harvests.

Waterford Bannow Island: Edition 1.1 (50% ABV) distilled from barley grown by Ed Harpur on the extreme southern coast of Co. Wexford, where salt-laden Atlantic winds and sandy soils create a unique, if challenging, terroir.

Ballykilcavan: Edition 1.1 (50% ABV) distilled from barley grown by David Walsh-Kemmis west of the Barrow in Co. Laois in the barley heartlands, where his fertile fields are sheltered by  ancient woodland.

Different Single Farm Origin bottlings, will be released to the US and other overseas markets later in the year, whilst Single Farm Origin: Ratheadon: Edition 1.1 will follow exclusively online and from the distillery itself.

Commenting on the news, Mark Reynier, Waterford Distillery Founder and CEO, said: "I’ve spent a lifetime in the top end of drinks industry – half in fine wine, half in single malt – and Waterford is the culmination of this rather unusual journey. It’s rare one has the chance to breathe life into to such a provocative concept, one of such of precision, challenge and originality.”

He went onto say: "For years folk have been hoodwinked on where whisky’s quality truly lies – once stills, then water, now wood. We want to shine the light on what really makes malt whisky the most complex spirit in the world, the primary source of all that extraordinary flavour: barley.”

He concluded by saying: "I can safely say no stone has been left unturned. No challenge unmet. Thanks to unparalleled logistics, great teamwork, and singleminded focus we can now share our inspiration, this vision, that will one day rebalance the way we look at and enjoy this fine spirit. And this is just the beginning."

The Waterford Single Farm Origin Series bottlings, will be available later next month from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £70.00.

Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Triple Distilled - Release No.1

This latest release from the Glasgow Distillery, is final iteration in its core range, before it embarks on an exciting selection of single cask and limited edition releases, which are currently in the pipeline.

Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Triple Distilled – Release No.1, follows on from the launch of the Glasgow 1770 Peated expression in 2019, and the distillery’s inaugrual launch of Glasgow 1770 Original in 2018.

Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Triple Distilled – Release No.1, is said to deliver notes of dark cherry, caramel toffee, roasted almonds, liquorice, vanilla and tea leaves on the nose. Followed by notes of ripe pear, baked vanilla cheesecake and spicy chocolate on the palate.

Commenting on the news, Liam Hughes, Co-Founder of The Glasgow Distillery Company said: “We are thrilled to celebrate the launch of our first Triple Distilled whisky. It has been a project of passion for everyone at the distillery and is truly a celebration of two of the essential elements in the whisky making process: the water and the wood.”

He went onto say: “We’re incredibly fortunate that our natural water supply is from Loch Katrine, it gives such softness and purity to our whisky. We also have access to virgin oak casks of outstanding quality and have used these for the entire duration of this whisky’s maturation. The additional complexity and depth that this adds is exceptional and the marriage of these two elements, the water and the wood, is really apparent in this exciting new release which we are proud to add to the Glasgow 1770 Signature Range.”

He concluded by saying: “It has always been our vision to create a core range of single malts that reflect differing production styles. Our  vision was influenced by the original Glasgow Distillery, which was founded in 1770 and inspired the name for our range of single malts. After discovering that they produced unpeated, peated and triple distilled whisky some 150 years ago we set out to do the same for the modern whisky era.”

Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Triple Distilled – Release No.1, is now available from the Glasgow Distillery website, for a RRP of £49.00.

ECHLINVILLE DISTILLERY LAUNCHES TWO NEW DUNVILLE'S SINGLE CASK BOTTLINGS

The Echlinville Distillery, has announced the launch of two new 18 Year Old Dunville's Irish single malt whiskeys.

Dunville’s 18 Year Old Palo Cortado Sherry Cask Finish - Cask 1203 (55% ABV) limited to 313 bottles and Dunville’s 18 Year Old Palo Cortado Sherry Cask Finish - Cask 1196 (48% ABV) limited to 375 bottles, are the latest additions to the brands Single Cask Series.

Echlinville Distillery launches to new Dunville's Irish single malt whiskeys

Both of the new whiskeys have been finished for over 2 years in rare Palo Cortado Sherry Casks, and have been bottled at cask strength.

Palo Cortado Sherry, initially starts ageing as a Fino or an Amontillado sherry, but during the ageing process, the flor becomes damaged or dries off, meaning the sherry ages oxidatively. It delivers the crispness of Amontillado and the full-bodied sweetness of an Olorosso.

Commenting on the launch, Jarlath Watson, Dunville’s Brand Ambassador, said: “When we revived the Dunville’s whiskey brand in 2012 we did so with the promise not to compromise in our desire to produce the finest whiskeys conceivable. We stay true to that ethos with our Single Cask Series, which showcases the very best whiskeys in the Dunville’s warehouses and gives our customers what they want – exceptional Irish whiskey, uncompromised and bottled at its optimum strength to deliver both a stunning palate and wonderful, luxurious mouthfeel.”

He went onto say: “These Palo Cortado Sherry Finish Whiskeys are the latest additions to the Single Cask Series, with each cask bottled at its best possible abv to maximise its flavour profile. While the cask strength release (Cask 1203) is all about the bolder dark fruit and spice flavour profiles, reminiscent of some of the best sherry bomb whiskeys out there, the reduced alcohol in the 48% abv (Cask 1196) allows the more delicate flavours of citrus, green fruits and the oak itself to come to the fore.”

The Dunville’s 18 Year Old Palo Cortado Sherry Cask Finish Cask 1203 and Cask 1196 bottlings, are now available from the distillery’s website, for the respective RRP’s of £199.50 and £159.50.
