Glasgow Distillery launches a trio of new Small Batch Series releases |
Glasgow 1770 Calvados Cask Finish (58.7% ABV) is a single malt Scotch whisky, produced using unpeated double distilled spirit, which was filled into a first fill ex-Bourbon cask on May 23rd 2017. It was then finished for two years and five months in a Calvados French brandy cask.
Glasgow 1770 Manzanilla Sherry Cask (59% ABV) is a single
malt Scotch whisky, produced using unpeated double distilled spirit, which was
laid down to mature on March 12th 2018 in a refill Manzanilla Sherry butt, that
was previously used to mature peated single malt scotch whisky.
Glasgow 1770 Tequila Cask Finish (55.3% ABV) is a single
malt Scotch whisky, produced using triple distilled spirit, which was filled
into a first fill ex-Bourbon cask on February 3rd 2018. It was then finished
for two years and six months in a Tequila cask.
Commenting on the launch, Mike Hayward, Co-Founder of The
Glasgow Distillery, said: “Glasgow 1770 Calvados Cask Finish marks our first
venture into Calvados finishing, using a cask that had previously been used for
maturing the traditional apple-based French brandy that is produced in the
Normandy region of France, offering notes of fresh green apples, poached pears,
and baked apple pie.”
He went onto say: “Our previous bottling of double distilled
spirit finished in a Tequila Cask was so popular that we decided to go one step
further, finishing our lighter and more delicate triple distilled whisky style
in a Tequila Cask, resulting in a whisky packed with notes of rich honey, lemon
and lime citrus, and honeydew melon.”
He concluded by saying: “Finally, we have our first
Manzanilla Sherry Cask matured single malt, a lusciously complex whisky with
notes of saline smoke, tropical papaya and rich plum. The whisky comes from a
single cask which has spent over five years maturing in a Manzanilla Sherry
Butt from a bodega in SanlĂșcar de Barrameda, an area of Spain famed for its
unique climate and production methods. This cask previously held our peated
double distilled new make spirit, contributing a touch of smoke which marries
perfectly with saline honey and floral chamomile notes gained from the
Manzanilla.”
Glasgow 1770 Calvados Cask Finish (limited to 270 bottles), Glasgow
1770 Manzanilla Sherry Cask (limited to 813 bottles), Glasgow 1770 Tequila Cask
Finish (limited to 272 bottles), are now available from the distillery website
and specialist retailers, for a RRP of £59.00 each.
