The Islay based Ardbeg Distillery, has announced the launch
of its smokiest expression to date.
Ardbeg Hypernova (51% ABV) which is available exclusively to
members of the Ardbeg Committee, is a non-age-stated, peated single malt Scotch
whisky, with phenol levels in excess of 170 ppm, which was matured in ex-Bourbon barrels.
Ardbeg Hypernova |
Ardbeg Hypernova, is said to deliver notes of tar, smoke, sea salt, blackcurrants, peppermint, lavender, chocolate, plasticine and burnt rubber on the nose. Followed by notes of sweet chocolate, cooling mint, pungent peat smoke, bitter almonds, aniseed and clove on the palate.
Commenting on the launch, Dr Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg’s Director
of Distilling and Whisky Creation, said: “This is without a doubt the smokiest
Ardbeg ever. We wanted to really push the boundaries this time and boldly go
where Ardbeg has never ventured before. A hypernova is a collapsing star
explosion so powerful it threatens the fabric of the galaxy – while I don’t
think this whisky will tear a hole in space and time, it’s certainly bursting
with fantastically peaty flavour.”
Ardbeg Hypernova, will be available later this month exclusively
to its Committee members, for a RRP of £190.00. Those who are not members can
sign up for free via ardbeg.com
