The Speyside based GlenAllachie Distillery, has today announced the launch of
a new vintage expression.
The GlenAllachie 2012 Vintage Cuvée Wine Cask Finish (48%
ABV) is a 10 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky, which was initially matured in American
oak ex-Bourbon barrels, before being finished for 20 months in casks that
previously held four types of premium European red wine: Languedoc, Recioto
Della Valpolicella and two undisclosed Premier Cru Classés.

This latest release is said to deliver notes of orange blossom, espresso, maraschino cherries, honeysuckle, candied stone fruits, hazelnuts, lavender and cinnamon on the nose. Followed by notes of dark chocolate, red currants, burnt coffee beans, crystalised almonds, blackberries, orange zest, ginger and liquorice on the palate.
Commenting on the launch, Billy Walker, Master Distiller at
The GlenAllachie Distillery, said: “As an impassioned wine enthusiast, devising
a Cuvée has been nothing short of a dream project. I’m fortunate to have
longstanding relationships with premium wine producers across Europe which has
opened doors for us to create a whisky with intricate charm. As a blender at
heart, identifying wine styles that would sit well together and capture
distinctive qualities presented an enjoyable challenge. They say, ‘never mix
grape and grain’, but I say this marriage is a match made in heaven.”
The GlenAllachie 2012 Vintage Cuvée Wine Cask Finish, will
be available later this month from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £53.99.
