GLENDRONACH LAUNCHES ITS FIRST 50 YEAR OLD EXPRESSION

The GlenDronach Distillery, has today announced the launch of its oldest single malt Scotch whisky expression to date.

The GlenDronach 50 Year Old (43.8% ABV) was distilled in 1971, and matured in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, before being married together in a single Pedro Ximénez cask.

The GlenDronach 50 Year Old, is said to deliver notes of ripe dark cherry, plum, smouldering tobacco, bramble, orange and cranberry on the nose, followed by notes of dark chocolate, tobacco, plum, black cherry and espresso on the palate.

Commenting on the launch, Rachel Barrie, Master Blender, said: “The GlenDronach Aged 50 Years is the most prestigious expression of what this timeless, richly-sherried Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky has to offer. It has been a privilege to be the final custodian of our oldest expression to date, passed down through generations.”

Bottle No. 1 of The GlenDronach 50 Year Old, was donated to the inaugural Distillers’ One of One Auction in December 2021, raising £40,000 in support of disadvantaged young people in Scotland.

Limited to 198 bottles, The GlenDronach 50 Year Old, will be available later this month from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £20,000.

WEMYSS LAUNCHES NEW BLENDED MALT WHISKY BOTTLING

Wemyss Malts, has today announced the launch of a new limited-edition, blended malt Scotch whisky bottling.

Wemyss Malts Smoky Shores (46% ABV) is a non-age-stated expression, which is said to be a sister whisky to the brands core range Peat Chimney bottling.

This latest release from the Edinburgh based independent bottler, is said to deliver notes of peat smoke, crushed mint leaves, aromatic rosemary, white pepper and zesty lemons.

Commenting on the launch, Isabella Wemyss, owner and Director of Production at Wemyss Malts, said: “We’re delighted with our new Smoky Shores bottling. Our existing smoky favourite from the core range, Peat Chimney, is already a big hit among our peat fans, and Smoky Shores has an even more intense, delicious smoky flavour, a real treat for peated whisky enthusiasts. Adding to the all-round flavour experience, you’ll find hand-crafted illustrations on the packaging inspired by the malting process. These really bring to life the tasting notes and flavour within the bottle, transporting you to coastal seashores.”

Limited to 5,526 bottles, Wemyss Malts Smoky Shores, will be available later this month directly from the brands website and specialist retailers, for a RRP £50.00.
