THE GLENLIVET LAUNCHES NEW 40 YEAR OLD RELEASE

Chivas Brothers, has today announced the launch of the oldest permanent expression to date, from its Speyside based Glenlivet distillery.

The Glenlivet 40 Year Old (46.9% ABV) is a single malt Scotch whisky, which was initially matured in ex-Bourbon barrels, before being finished in custom casks from the heart of Jerez in Spain, which were seasoned with a bespoke blend of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry.

The choice of cask finish and extensive maturation period is said to be a testament to The Glenlivet’s unwavering commitment to quality and craftmanship within whisky making.

This latest release delivers notes of homemade strawberry jam and raisins, dark cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg and toasted oak on the nose. Followed by notes of poached plums, charred orange, dark chocolate, braised red apples and sweet liquorice on the palate.

The Glenlivet 40 Year Old, comes presented in an elongated bottle inspired by The Glenlivet’s original, 200 year old glass silhouette and housed inside a sleek and elegant copper-coloured presentation container – inspired by the copper stills used at The Glenlivet Distillery. It also features the distinct profile of founder George Smith and a burst of colour in the form of The Glenlivet’s signature teal.

Commenting on the launch, Kevin Balmforth, The Glenlivet Cask Master, said: “The Glenlivet 40 Year Old represents more than four decades of dedication and craftsmanship from our team. It’s thanks to the efforts and foresight of my predecessors who laid down the foundation of this whisky 40 years ago that we’re able to showcase the trailblazing spirit of The Glenlivet with the introduction of such a special and highly aged permanent expression after such a monumental year.”

The Glenlivet 40 Year Old, is now available from The Whisky Shop, for a RRP of £4,600.
