The Islay based Bruichladdich distillery, has today announced the launch of a new addition to the 15th series of its heavily peated Octomore single malt Scotch whisky.

Octomore 15 Series – The 10 Year Old (52.2% ABV) is a peated (107 PPM) single malt Scotch whisky, produced using 100% Scottish Concerto barley, which was matured in a combination of first-fill Bourbon casks (50%), Pineau des Charentes wine casks (15%), second-fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry butts (25%) and first fill red wine casks (10%).

This latest release joins the most recent trio of Octomore single malt whiskies; 15.1, 15.2 and 15.3, in the experimental series which pushes the boundaries of whisky making, taking a closer look at the intense power of peat as well as the profound influence of cask maturation, locally grown malting barley and the passing of time.

Octomore 15 Series – The 10 Year Old, is said to deliver notes of dried fruit, butterscotch, caramel, vanilla, buttered popcorn and orange blossom on the nose. Followed by notes of sweet smoked fruit, mango, apricot, candied citrus, wood spice, roasted coffee beans, charred oak, heather and earthy peat smoke on the palate.

Commenting on the launch, Adam Hannett, Head Distiller at Bruichladdich Distillery, said: “The quiet passing of time together with this particular cask maturation profile has helped shape our latest Octomore expression. The oldest expression in this year’s series, the oak has left an incredible mark on the final 10 year old spirit, bringing fresh fruit notes and layers of wood spice, cinnamon, and coffee. It’s incredibly viscous in texture, with layers of flavour enveloped in Octomore’s signature peat smoke.”

Octomore 15 Series – The 10 Year Old, is now available exclusively from the Bruichladdich website and distillery visitor centre, for a RRP of £175.00.
