The Kentucky based Michter’s Distillery, has announced the UK launch of its two latest Legacy Series bottlings.
Shenk’s Homestead Sour Mash 2024 Edition (45.6% ABV) and Bomberger’s
Declaration Bourbon 2024 Edition (54% ABV) take their names from the first two
owners of the original distillery site that went on to be known as Michter’s.

In 1753, Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk founded Shenk’s distillery in Pennsylvania. The distillery was later renamed Bomberger’s Distillery in the 1800s - after Abraham Bomberger, before its name changed again to Michter’s Distillery in the mid-20th Century.
Named for the original distillery founder, Shenk’s Homestead
is crafted using the traditional Sour Mash process, whereby a portion of the
previously distilled whiskey mash is added into the next batch.
Shenk’s Homestead contains rye whiskey that was matured in
French oak casks, which was naturally air-dried and seasoned for 24 months
before being toasted to Michter’s exacting specifications. This release also
includes whiskey with unique grains in the recipe, including malted rye and
caramel malt, to offer a smooth creaminess to complement the rye-forward
herbaceous and spice qualities.
Named after the distillery’s second owner, Bomberger’s
Declaration is a Kentucky straight Bourbon matured in Chinquapin oak, which was
naturally air-dried and seasoned for three years before being toasted and
charred to Michter’s exacting specifications. This whiskey also includes Bourbon
with malted rye in the recipe, resulting in a bold and vibrant whiskey with
many layers of rich complexity.
Commenting on the launch, Andrea Wilson, Michter’s Master of
Maturation, said: “This year’s release of Shenk’s and Bomberger’s is a
reflection of the passion the team has for making exciting whiskeys with a
thoughtful touch of exploration.”
Shenk’s Homestead Sour Mash 2024 Edition and Bomberger’s
Declaration Bourbon 2024 Edition, will be available later this month from
specialist retailers. RRP: £120 each.
