The Islay based Kilchoman Distillery, has announced the launch of the 14th edition of its heavily peated 100% Islay bottling.
Kilchoman 100% Islay 2024 Edition (50% ABV) is a 9 Year Old
single malt Scotch whisky, which was distilled using their 2013 and 2014 barley
harvests, before being matured in a combination of Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry
casks.
Kilchoman 100% Islay 2024 Edition |
This year, Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder, decided on a cask ratio of Bourbon 9:1 Oloroso Sherry. The combination is said to have created layers of vanilla, butterscotch, and rich fruity character that balance beautifully with the natural citrus sweetness and floral peat smoke of Kilchoman’s 100% Islay spirit.
Kilchoman, produces its 100% Islay single malt from barley
grown in fields surrounding the distillery and completes every stage of the
whisky-making process at the distillery, including traditional floor malting.
Commenting on the launch, Anthony Wills, said: “Our 100%
Islay releases are the culminations of efforts made at each stage of the
process, from sowing the barley back in 2013 and 2014, through harvesting,
malting, distilling and maturing, all done on-site here at Kilchoman. This year we selected a combination of
bourbon and sherry cask maturation. In
my eyes, the contrasting influences creates a lovely balance of richness and
light floral character.”
Kilchoman 100% Islay 2024 Edition, will be available later
this month from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £84.00.
