ARDBEG LAUNCHES NEW LIMITED EDITION SINGLE MALT AHEAD OF ITS CELEBRATION DAY

The Ardbeg Distillery has today announced the launch of a new experimental limited-edition release, ahead of its annual day of celebrations (Ardbeg Day) on Saturday June 1st, as part of the Islay Festival of Music and Malt (Fèis Ìle).

Ardbeg Spectacular (46% ABV) is a non-age-stated single malt Scotch whisky, which was matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon barrels and Port casks.

This latest release which is the first from Ardbeg to include whisky matured in Port casks, is said to deliver notes of fragrant lavender, incense candles, leather, wax, almonds, woodsmoke, damp peat moss and hints of menthol on the nose. Followed by notes of peat smoke, eucalyptus oil, mint chocolate, toffee, smoked pecans, sweet pear crumble, fudge, creosote and tar on the palate.

Taking inspiration from the whisky’s deep, dark cavalcade of flavours, the Islay based whisky brand is inviting fans to join its very own “Dark Circus” on Ardbeg Day. For one day only, at the distillery and at local events across the globe, whisky fans can delve into an offbeat and smoky Ardbeggian take on the circus, through intriguing tastings and events.

Commenting on the news, Gillian Macdonald, Ardbeg Master Blender, said: “Ardbeg Spectacular is a high-flying spirit, very befitting of Ardbeg Day. Its years in bourbon and port casks create a spectacle of flavours, the like of which Ardbeggians will never have tasted before.”

Jackie Thomson, Distillery Visitor Centre Manager, added: “This Ardbeg Day we will celebrate our whisky in the most spectacular style – from this new limited edition, to our core range favourites like Ardbeg Ten Years Old. I’m looking forward to entering into the spirit of the circus with fans at the Distillery, online and across the globe on 1st June, as we come together to juggle big, bold smoky flavours and marvel at the phenolic phenomenon that is Ardbeg!”

Ardbeg Spectacular, will be available from April 23rd, from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £110.
