The Benromach Distillery, has announced the launch of a new limited-edition
expression, as part of its Contrasts range.
Benromach Cara Gold (46% ABV) is a lightly peated (12ppm) single
malt Scotch whisky, which was matured in first-fill bourbon barrels.

Laid down to mature in 2010, this latest release from the Speyside based distillery, is the first from Benromach to use Cara Gold malted barley; a low colour roasted caramel malt more commonly found in breweries which produces rich fruity and toffee flavours. This was combined with the distillery’s standard lightly peated malt.
Benromach Cara Gold, is said to deliver notes of passionfruit,
lychee, lime and malted biscuits on the nose, followed by notes of pineapple,
apricot, pepper, butterscotch and sweet smoke on the palate.
Commenting on the news, Keith Cruickshank, Distillery
Manager at Benromach, said: “We love to get creative with our small batch
vintage expressions and our Contrasts Range allows us to do this . Unlike any
of our other expressions, we have used Cara Gold malt – this is a type of
malted barley you would usually find in a brewery rather than a distillery and
it has produced a beautiful and unique single malt. But, in true Benromach
style, this whisky was made by hand for genuine character using the skills,
expertise and senses of our small team of distillers.”
Limited to 1,500 bottles, Benromach Cara Gold, will be
available later this month from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £49.99.
