THE WILTSHIRE WHISKY DISTILLEY GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT

The Wiltshire Whisky Distillery Company, has announced that it has been given approval to proceed with the development of a new single-estate, grain-to-glass whisky distillery, on the Fonthill Estate in Wiltshire.

The estate which belongs to Lord Margadale, who also owns an estate on the whisky isle of Islay, has a limestone rock filtered spring water source and chalky soil farmland for its barley.

The Wiltshire Whisky Distillery Company, plans to create a range of products that truly reflect the county of Wiltshire. In addition to its whisky, it plans to produce a series of botanical spirits and gins with ingredients foraged from the estate’s grasslands and woodland.

The company which has been founded by Alistair Munro, Alasdair Large and Jon Carson, also has an advisory board made up of industry experts including; James Espey OBE, who was instrumental in creating and building a multitude of brands including Chivas Regal 18, Johnnie Walker Blue Label and The Classic Malts, and Colin Scott, former Master Blender and Custodian Master Blender at Chivas Brothers.

Commenting on the news, Alistair Munro, said: “It is a dream realised to be building our distillery within such a culturally significant estate as Fonthill. Not only does it provide a rich backdrop for the development of our uniquely British brand, it also enables us to achieve our ambition of creating a highly-sustainable, single-estate offering. We will assess every business, brewing and distilling decision in terms of environmental impact, local provenance and sustainability. The distillery intends to be carbon neutral from the start and, very soon thereafter, carbon negative, making the market’s ambitions for tomorrow The Wiltshire Whisky Distillery Company's goals for today.”

The Wiltshire Whisky Distillery Company, is currently engaged in fundraising £3m, with a view to commencing distillation later in 2021, with the release of its first spirits in early 2022.
