W.D. O’Connell, has today announced the launch of two new limited-edition, cask strength Irish single malt whiskeys.

W.D. O’Connell Bill Phil Cask Strength and W.D. O’Connell 18 Year Old PX Series Cask Strength, are the 4th and 5th releases from the whiskey merchant and independent bottler, which was founded by Daithí O’Connell in 2019.

W.D. O’Connell Bill Phil Cask Strength (59.6% ABV) is a triple-distilled peated single malt, which has been aged exclusively in a first-fill bourbon barrel. The name is inspired by the founder’s Great Grandfather, William Phillip O’Connell, who was a prominent blacksmith in West Limerick. He was famous for making a great slean (a tool for footing or cutting turf) and known locally as Bill Phil.

W.D. O’Connell 18 Year Old PX Series Cask Strength (58.16% ABV) is a double distilled single malt, from the Cooley Distillery, which was matured in first-fill Bourbon barrel for 17 years and a Pedro Ximénez Sherry cask for 13 months.

Commenting on the launch, Daithí O’Connell, Founder of W.D. O’Connell Whiskey Merchants, said: “We launched last December with two single cask offerings, and we are back here again except this time in cask strength and with 50cl bottles. The decision to use 50cl was two-fold, to give us a distinct bottle look and feel for the cask strength range and to keep the retail cost down. The end result is a brilliant looking bottle at a reasonable RRP given the quality of whiskey and the ABV.''

W.D. O’Connell Bill Phil Cask Strength (limited to 350 bottles) and W.D. O’Connell 18 Year Old PX Series Cask Strength (limited to 370 bottles) will be available from August 24th from the Celtic Whiskey Shop and other select specialist retailers, for the respective RRP’s of €70.00 and €140.00.
