THE GLENROTHES LAUNCHES ITS FIRST 40 YEAR OLD EXPRESSION

The Glenrothes, has announced the launch of its first 40 Year Old, single malt Scotch whisky expression.

The Glenrothes 40 Year Old (40% ABV) was distilled in December 1978 and was matured in a combination of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks.

The Glenrothes 40 Year Old

The Glenrothes 40 Year Old, is said to be exquisitely resinous and rich in sweetness with a spicy edge and naturally deep ruby colour. Delivering distinctive aromas of orange oil, peach, cedar wood and almond, along with flavours of sultanas, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Commenting on the launch, Gordon Motion, Master Whisky Maker, The Glenrothes, said: “Forty years ago The Glenrothes distillery was different in many ways, yet our whisky character remains unchanged. The release of our new 40 Year Old Single Malt takes us back in time and celebrates the end of an era with the closure of the original still-house. It has been a truly rewarding experience to incorporate some of the last remaining spirit from this time. The very fact that it was created in a place which no longer produces whisky highlights the real rarity of this expression.”

The Glenrothes 40 Year Old, will be available later this month from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £2,900,00.
