BENRIACH LAUNCHES NEW PEATED FOUR CASK MATURED EXPRESSION

The Elgin based, BenRiach Distillery Company, has today announced the launch of a new 21 Year Old, peated single malt Scotch whisky expression.

BenRiach Temporis 21 Year Old (46% ABV) has been matured in a combination of bourbon, virgin oak, Pedro Ximenez sherry and Oloroso sherry casks.

BenRiach Temporis 21 Year Old

The name Temporis, meaning ‘time’ in Latin, emulates the original character and flavour of Speyside malts in the nineteenth century. Historical whisky research indicates BenRiach was the first distillery within Speyside to re-introduce peated malt into its whisky making back in the 1970’s, a time when most Speyside distillers had moved their focus towards unpeated malt distillation.

This latest release, which follows on from its unpeated equivalent launched in December 2017, is said to deliver notes of caramelised pear, toasted oak spice, honeyed peat and smoked pinewood on the nose. Followed by notes of smooth creamy peat, roasted orchard fruits, eucalyptus, tropical pineapple, star anise and smoked cinnamon embers on the palate.

Commenting on the launch, Rachel Barrie, Master Blender at BenRiach, said: “This four-cask matured and peated combination produces a superbly balanced malt, retaining BenRiach’s signature sweet, fruit-laden style and peated tradition.”

BenRiach Temporis 21 Year Old, will be available later this month from specialist retailers, for a RRP of £135,00.
