LAGAVULIN ADDS ITS 8 YEAR OLD 200TH ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION BOTTLING TO ITS CORE RANGE

Diageo has announced that its limited edition 8 Year Old Lagavulin expression, which launched in March 2016, as part of the distillery’s 200th anniversary celebrations, will now be added as a permanent addition to its core range of single malts.

Lagavulin 8 Year Old (48% ABV) was originally produced in honour of Britain’s most famous Victorian whisky writer, Alfred Barnard.

During the late 1880s, Alfred Barnard sampled an 8 Year Old Lagavulin during a visit to Islay and described it as “exceptionally fine” and ‘held in high repute’. He went on the declare Lagavulin to be “one of the most prominent” of the few Scotch distillers that can turn out spirit for use as a single malt whisky.

Lagavulin 8 Year Old, is said to deliver notes of milk chocolate, lemon, tea-scented smoke and maritime aromas on the nose, followed by notes of smoke, minty dark chocolate and oven-charred baked potato skins on the palate.

Commenting on the news, Richard Walker, Diageo’s Global Head of Malts, said: “Our aim for the 200th Anniversary was to bring Islay to life for as many people as possible, and by re-releasing this bottling as a permanent offering in our portfolio, we’ll be able to continue sharing Lagavulin’s heritage across the globe for many years to come.”

Lagavulin 8 Year Old, will be available later this month from specialist retailers in the US, Canada, Taiwan, Japan and parts of Europe. RRP (tbc) but it will be priced 15% below its 16 Year Old bottling.
