ARDBEG DAY TURNS INTO NIGHT WITH THE LAUNCH OF ITS 2016 COMMITTEE RELEASE BOTTLING

Ardbeg has announced the launch of its 2016 limited edition Committee Release bottling, ahead of Islay distillery's annual day of celebration on May 28th, which will see Ardbeg Day plunged into darkness and transformed for the first time into Ardbeg Night.

Ardbeg Dark Cove (55% ABV) is a no age statement (NAS) bottling that has been matured in ex-bourbon and dark sherry casks; described by Mickey Heads, Ardbeg Distillery Manager as “The darkest Ardbeg ever.”

Ardbeg Dark Cove

Inspired by its turbulent and murky past, this year’s event and committee bottling will for the first time be the focus of events on Ardbeg Night. Committee Members from around the world will meet in the shadows of special events, where dark stories of smuggling on Islay will be told. Members will also be given the opportunity to buy bottles of Ardbeg Dark Cove.

Ardbeg was once a notorious hideout for smugglers, who plied their trade within its hidden caves and secret beaches. There are dark tales of daring deeds and narrow escapes from the island’s excise men in the years before John McDougall founded the Ardbeg Distillery.

This latest Ardbeg Committee Release bottling, is said to deliver notes of meaty, earthy spice and dark chocolate, orange, rich treacle toffee, coffee, linseed oil, oak and blackcurrant bushes to the nose, followed by notes of almost tart, zesty limes, raisins, dates, ginger, pepper, wood polish and tarry creosote on the palate.

Following a limited release today via their website, Ardbeg Dark Cove will be available in limited numbers from Ardbeg embassies on May 28th for £85.99.
