Award winning Aberdeenshire distillery GlenDronach, has announced the release of a new limited edition Octaves expression.

GlenDronach 20 Year Old Octaves (48% ABV) was distilled on September 23 1994, before being matured in sherry casks and then finished in Pedro Ximenez Sherry Octaves.

The whisky which was taken from casks that were hand selected by Master Distiller Billy Walker, is said to deliver notes of chocolate fondant, candied ginger, glacé cherries, black pepper, rich oak, spices and liquorice on the nose, along with notes of sherry, dark molasses, enriched Christmas cake, sour plum syrup and cigar box spices on the palate.

Octave casks are made from staves of a previously used sherry butt and are approximately one-eighth the size of a butt. A smaller cask allows for more interaction between the wood and the spirit, giving the whisky a greater depth of flavour and aroma in a shorter period of time.

Limited to 371 hand numbered bottles, GlenDronach 20 Year Old Octaves will be available from selected specialist retailers for the RRP of £324,99.
